The First Thanksgiving

In 1620 the pilgrims planned to settle in the Hudson River region of New York, which at the time would have been Northern Virginia on a map.  But they landed in Cape Cod instead.  In the original plan they also intended to sail in two tiny ships, the Speedwell and the Mayflower.  Because the former was incredibly slow and only leaked well, it was sold, requiring everyone to crowd onto the latter and smaller of the two.  The plan was to leave in early April, but the 50 men, 20 women, and 32 children did not get underway until late August.

The Lutheran Bear

Have you seen the bear?  He is waving at the cars passing by on Sixth Street.  Look for him outside the playground fence next to the sidewalk by a blue disabled parking sign.  When he stands up he is over six feet tall.  He is brown in color, weighs in around 350 pounds, and he's a southpaw, which means left-handed.  He hasn't been throwing lately because some pedestrians at the local coffee shop where he stood most of the summer months trimmed his nails.

The Pastor's Class

The Pastor's ClassTuesday night at the church is part of the fall line-up that I hope will become a regular part of your week.  Beginning on September 11 at 7:00 PM, everyone is cordially invited to the Pastor's Class in the fellowship hall.  If seating is a challenge, we will simply move into the sanctuary.
